About Us
The Manship Theatre offers a unique experience for its theatre audience: 325 front row seats. The theatre, modeled after the style of classic European opera houses, is one of the most beautifully intimate theatres in the United States. With the 11th row as the Manship Theatre's rear seating, the audience member can see eye to eye with the performers onstage, and have a once in a lifetime experience.
The theatre and its staff are dedicated to cultivation and presentation of world class performances. These presentations will encompass all forms of performance: theatre, musical theatre, dance, family programs, music, film, and literature including visual, folk, digital and emerging art forms. Performances on the Manship Theatre stage will be of the utmost quality, with a focus on cultural diversity as well as an innovative approach to educational programming. They will be presented to appeal to all segments of the local and regional population. The Manship Theatre will offer productions, conduct performing and visual arts courses and seminars, and provide demonstrations and workshops. The Brunner Gallery, located on the second floor Mezzanine, will present rotating exhibitions of contemporary art.
The Manship Theatre is housed within the Shaw Center for the Arts. The Shaw Center for the Arts (SCA) is a new $55 million, 125,000 square foot facility. Funds were raised through the joint efforts and major contributions by the State of Louisiana and Baton Rouge City-Parish.
